About Mir

My name is Mir Kahol. I'm 13 years old, and I love basketball, the gym, family, cars, sneakers, and building cool projects. Basketball is a huge part of my life, but I also enjoy technology, engineering, public speaking, and creative problem-solving.

My favourite basketball players are Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry. I admire Kobe's work ethic, Steph's shooting, and Scottie Barnes' defense. I also got to meet Scottie Barnes, which motivated me even more.

My goal is to keep growing as an athlete, student, speaker, and builder.

Basketball Journey

Basketball is one of the biggest parts of my life. I practise my dribbling every day, and one to three times a week I get to a court and work on my moves. My favourite shot is a side-step three, with the mid-range pull-up right behind it — and right now I'm putting most of my reps into my layups.

I admire Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry, and I try to learn from both of them — their moves and their mindset. I want to play with Kobe's work ethic, Curry's shooting confidence, and Scottie Barnes' defensive energy.

Basketball means a lot to me. Whenever I'm sad, I pick up a basketball and I feel much better. It's the place I go to clear my head — and the place I'm building toward something.

Kobe Bryant

Work ethic, discipline, confidence, and Mamba Mentality. I study his moves and the way he thought about the game.

Stephen Curry

Shooting, handles, skill, and confidence from deep. His range is what I chase every time I step on the court.

Scottie Barnes

Defense, energy, versatility, and intensity. I trained with him at a camp and saw that motor up close.

The Goal

Make a team, and average at least 12 points a game. Every rep is pointed at that number.

The Work

  • Dribbling and ball-handling work every single day
  • 1–3 court sessions a week for live reps and move work
  • Signature move: the side-step three
  • Go-to counter: the mid-range pull-up
  • Currently building: finishing every kind of layup

Building the Vertical

The lifts I'm using in the gym to jump higher:

  • Front squats
  • Leg extension isometric holds
  • Bulgarian deadlifts
  • Trap bar deadlifts

Achievements

  • Trained with Scottie Barnes and the Toronto Raptors head coach at a camp
  • Met Scottie Barnes in person
  • Won a 3-point competition at a friend's birthday party
  • Trains consistently in basketball and the gym
  • Working on becoming a better shooter, defender, and all-around player

Around the League

I follow the NBA closely — the moves, the mindsets, the games. These headlines refresh on their own, straight from ESPN, so this is what the league is talking about right now.

EcoQuest

🏆 Ingenious+ Regional Award Winner

EcoQuest is a chatbot I built that runs on local LLMs instead of the huge cloud data centres that power tools like ChatGPT. Because everything runs on-device, EcoQuest burns about 70% less energy for the same conversations — proving that useful AI doesn't have to come at such a heavy cost to the environment.

EcoQuest was recognized with an Ingenious+ Regional Award, and I received the award from the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Edith Dumont. It's a project I'm really proud of, because it shows how AI can help people while being far kinder to the planet.

By running on local LLMs instead of massive cloud data centres, EcoQuest burns roughly 70% less energy for the same conversations.

The models run locally, so your data never has to leave the machine — no giant server farm required to answer a question.

The Robot

🤖 Work in progress

This is the humanoid robot I'm building. It walks, it talks, and it does plenty of other things — with a long list of new abilities I'm still coding. Fun fact: it weighs almost 100 pounds, so nothing about it is a simulation. If the code is wrong, you feel it in the room.

It's the project that pulls everything I like together: hardware you can put your hands on, software that has to work the first time, and AI that makes the whole thing feel alive. This section will keep growing as I teach it more.

~100 lbs

of humanoid

Fun fact: it weighs almost 100 pounds. That's not a toy on a desk — it's a full-size machine, and every line of code has to respect that much mass moving around a room.

It walks

balance & gait

Getting a humanoid to stay upright is the hard part. Watching it take its own steps across the floor never stops being the best payoff of the whole build.

It talks

voice & conversation

It listens, responds, and holds a conversation — the layer where the robotics side meets the AI work I love building.

See It Move

The robot in action — walking, balancing, and responding while I'm running it. Turn the sound on: this is the part that doesn't come across in photos, and it's a lot more convincing when you can see 100 pounds of machine holding its own balance.

Taking Steps

Up on its own two feet and walking across the room while we drive it from our phones. Every step is a balance problem being solved in real time.

Speech Competition

🏆 Winner

I won my school's speech competition with a speech on AI ethics — how we can build and use artificial intelligence in a way that's fair, honest, and good for people. It's a topic I care about deeply, and getting up in front of everyone to argue for it was one of my proudest moments.

Speaking about AI ethics tied right back into my own work — projects like EcoQuest come from believing that technology should help people without costing us more than it's worth.

Fairness & Bias

AI learns from data, and biased data leads to biased decisions. I talked about why we have to build systems that treat everyone fairly.

Privacy & Responsibility

The people who build AI are responsible for how it's used. I made the case for protecting people's data and being honest about what AI can and can't do.

AI for Good

Used the right way, AI can help people and even the planet — the same idea that pushed me to build EcoQuest.

Guitar

Music is the other side of my discipline. I started on acoustic as a kid and now play electric, recently earning my RSL Rockschool Grade 4 with a Merit. Right now I'm preparing for my Grade 5 exam, and my goal is to score 90+ for a Distinction. The same routine that drives my game on the court — show up, put in the reps, get a little better every day — is exactly how I approach the guitar.

Where It Started

One of my first lessons — working through chords with my teacher on an acoustic. Those early sessions built the patience and ear I still lean on every time I pick up a guitar.

Grade 4 — Merit

My Mindset

My mindset is simple: train hard, stay disciplined, and keep improving. I believe talent matters, but work ethic matters more. I try to bring the same energy to basketball, school, fitness, speaking, and my projects.

“Work hard. Stay disciplined. Keep improving.”
